Napili Community Bike Park: Maui's Newest Playground for Riders

Napili Community Bike Park: Maui's Newest Playground for Riders

Krank Cycles Maui is thrilled to announce the latest addition to West Maui’s outdoor recreation scene: the Napili Community Bike Park in Lahaina.

This long-awaited project is the result of years of hard work and passion from key figures in the local cycling community, especially Ray Watson, president of the Maui Mountain Bike Coalition (MMBC), who has been pushing to legalize trails on the West Side for years. Now, with the collaboration of Krank Cycles and some of the best names in trail-building, that dream is becoming a reality.

A Bold Step Forward: Bringing World-Class Bike Trails to Maui

Krank Cycles took a decisive step by partnering with Cameron Zink’s Sensus Rad Trails and flying in lead trail builder Cody Wilkins. Wilkins, a true maestro in crafting thrilling and sustainable trails, is already hard at work with an all-star team that includes Ray Watson and Krank Cycles’ very own Moose. Joining this talented crew is Red Bull rider, Carson Storch, who will be lending his expertise to the health-building aspects of the project.

Their vision? To create a bike park in Napili that will not only cater to advanced riders but also offer something for the whole family—from beginners to experts.

This Napili bike park is being built on a privately leased parcel of land, thanks to the support of Maui Land Pine, and is conveniently located adjacent to Maui Preparatory Academy. The proximity to the school will create a unique and accessible space for students to enjoy cycling, providing an incredible resource for kids looking to stay active and engaged after school.

The Napili Bike Park Is A Vital Resource for a Community in Recovery

In the wake of the devastating 2023 Lahaina wildfires, the need for recreational spaces for West Maui’s youth became more urgent than ever. Krank Cycles has been deeply involved in the community’s recovery efforts, and from the time of the fires through Christmas 2023, they organized, distributed, and gave away over 1,400 bikes to kids affected by the tragedy. However, the children need a safe place to ride and grow their passion for cycling—and that’s exactly where the Napili Community Bike Park comes in.

Rallying Support: $50,000 Raised for the Napili Bike Park

Ray Watson, alongside Krank Cycles and other community leaders, has been tirelessly fundraising to bring this Napili bike park to life. Thanks to generous donations from companies like Kona Bicycles and the Maui Ponon Foundation, over $50,000 has already been raised, with more supporters joining the cause every day. The enthusiasm surrounding the park is a testament to the resilience of the West Maui community, and it’s clear that this bike park will be a crucial part of rebuilding the area’s spirit.

Krank Cycles: Proud Sponsor and Advocate

As a key sponsor of the Napili bike park, Krank Cycles Maui is honored to have not only supported and fundraised for this meaningful and impactful project but also actively participated in its creation alongside other entities in the Mountain Bike Club. With a long history of giving back to the community—including repairing and giving away thousands of bikes over the past decade—this new park is the next step in their mission to grow cycling culture on Maui. The Napili Community Bike Park promises to be a place where young riders can hone their skills, families can enjoy time outdoors, and seasoned mountain bikers can push their limits.

Stay tuned for more updates as the trails take shape. Krank Cycles invites everyone to join in the excitement and help make this dream a reality for Lahaina and beyond. Together, we’re building a better future, one ride at a time.
